left the state park at 430pm saturday and cleared the pass and headed 70 miles to blue water found a nice rip formed up loaded with bait but didnt find any sizeable dolphin next we pulled up to the spot threw out a few pogies and mangroves started swarming under the boat with tons of red snapper below the furuno 1150 turned completely red when we pulled up to the rig it was crazy the guys on the boat had never been offshore before and were amazed at the amount of life there is in the ocean we spent half of the night here and caught 16 mangroves and half our limits of red snapper losing a few giants due to straightened out 7/0 live bait hooks never happened before to much drag i guess next stop was another 12 miles and cobia were thick at this rig around daylight we noticed 3 swiming right to the boat we all threw baits dangled them at there noses and they wouldnt bite out of frustration i grabbed the gaff and stuck the biggest in the group and he went apeshit but i held on and put him in the boat and the new guys on the boat went nuts with the cobia flopping on the deck after we calmed down i reached in the box and pulled out a jig and i jokingly called it the secret weapon little did i know what would happen next, first drop 30 feet off bottom hook up to a good fish starts smoking the drag and 15 minutes later up pops a 23 lb snapper next drop same thing hand the rod off and get him to the boat and hes even bigger, third drop thinking there is no way in hell this will happen again of course another fish satrts smoking the drag i hand the rod off and my friend hands it right back and up pops a 62 pound warsaw after dropping live and dead baits for hours and not catching anything that size it blows my mind but you never know what they want now its after daylight and were trying for mangroves again we leave a rod dangling 20 feet below the boat it starts smoking i look over and 5 cobia are swimmin under the boat and everyone goes nut s throwing baits everywhere crossing lines missing gaff shots but when the pandemonium ended we boxed three more cobia and headed to the pass i am really impressed with the fishing at the point this being only my second trip the farther you go the better it gets
final tally
8-red snapper
16-mangrove
4-cobia
1-warsaw
and a few trigger fish and jacks

I believe you are leaving out of Cypremort Point State Park and crossing the Vermilion bay to enter the gulf. We fished that area last Thursday with great success.

Good luck and tight lines
