Coast Guard Saves Two Men Ejected from Boat
PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Two men were saved by a Coast Guard boat crew after they were ejected from their boat in Currituck County on the North River in the vicinity of the Great Bridge Albermarle Sound at about 7:30 a.m. Today.
One of the men sustained a broken arm and hurt shoulder and the other was uninjured after witnesses say after they hit the wake of another boat at a high rate of speed and were thrown from their vessel.
A Coast Guard boat crew from Station Elizabeth City, N.C., was in the area on a routine patrol when they received the call from a good Samaritan that the two men were ejected from their boat. The Coast Guardsmen were able come the men's aid in a matter of minutes.
The injured man was transferred to waiting EMS at the Coinjock, N.C., Wildlife Boat Ramp and is being treated for minor injuries at Albermarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, N.C.
With the up-and-coming boating season, the Coast Guard urges all boaters to heed to all navigation and no-wake signs, to reduce their speed while in close proximity to other boaters, and to always wear their life jackets.
